On November 7, 1891, Whitcomb Judson was awarded a patent for an invention called the shoe zipper. It was an accident to a friend of his that prompted him to invent it. Owing to a back injury, any movement was a challenge, especially shoe lacing. That’s when Judson sought to create a special zipper, however, his version never gained popularity due to the design complexity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the zipper as we know it now was developed by Gideon Sundback, who patented his invention on April 29, 1913.<\/span><\/p>\n

Goodrich shoe factory, when he heard the lightning sound, he gave the name “zipper” to this phenomenon. Then he named his collection of rubber overshoes “zipper boots”.
